£20 Makeup Challenge: Superdrug

Hello lovely ladies

Today ive got a different kind of blog post for you and its one that just came to me when I was pondering about what to blog about.

I thought it would be a fun idea to go onto the Superdrug website and fill a basket with everything that a person would need to start of their makeup collection. I thought this would be really useful for those who are just starting out in makeup or for those who have just finished a product and would like to try something different.

I set a limit at £20 which I feel is quite affordable (I was going to do £10 but when I looked the only way I could succeed with that budget would be to buy all MUA or 2True products and I wanted to go for a variety of brands).

Within my £20 budget I managed to find 6 products which cover all bases and are great makeup staples. Just a note to say that I havent actually used all of these products so im not sure what kinds of skin etc that they would work for.

The first product ive got for you is the MUA Professional Brush On Concealer Pen which will set you back £2.00. Ive never tried this but the MUA products which I have tried have been great so I cant see that this would be total rubbish. It claims to smooth and brighten the skin to create a perfect canvas which sounds great to me!

The second product is foundation. The foundation I went for is from a very well known brand and is the Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation. This costs £5.99 which is very affordable and as its from Rimmel you know you are getting a good quality product. Ive never used this but if it is truly matte then this product would be great for the summer when it is warm (like the weather weve got today her in East Anglia!).

The third product I chose is a powder. I personally use powders everyday as I suffer with oily skin so I need something to banish the shine. This is also a product which I am currently using and Im getting on really well with it. I have it in the transluscent shade and it does get rid of shine without making the rest of my make up look cakey. This product gets a big thumbs up from me. For £1.99 the COLLECTION 2000 Pressed Powder would be a great addition to your make up bag.

Now youve made a perfect base for the rest of the make up, the next thing I would do is to highlight my cheekbones and add some colour using a blusher. Ive never bought a really expensive blusher and my two current favourites are an MUA one and a Natural Collection (which is only available in Boots) one. The one ive chosen for you today is the FashionistA Mono Blusher in Rose Shine. This is £4, which is personally more than ive ever spent on a blusher but it still doesnt put us over the £20 pound limit. Ive chosen this blusher becasue I think it is is such a beautiful shade and it looks quite natural which if your new with makeup you want things that help to enhance your natural features without looking too overdone.

At this point you could add bronzer but Ive left it out of the shopping basket A )because its not an essential part of a makeup routine and B) it would have put me over budget! Once youve applied blusher the only thing you have left to do is to decorate your eyes and lips. The only eye product included in the basket is the Collection 2000 Longer Lash in Black. Im currently using this and its one of the best mascars ive ever used. I would recommend this to anyone. It costs £2.99 and claims to seriously lengthen lashes.

The final product in this basket is the FashionistA Double Take Long Wear Lipstick in Natural Pink. This costs £3.00 (although originally £7.00 and is currently on offer). I chose this particular shade because it looks really natural and sometimes choosing a suitable lip colour can be really daunting (I know it is!). This isnt too much and looks as if it would be perfect for everyday use.



So there we have it. 6 must have have makeup products which will make a good basis for any collection and all for a grand sum of £19.97, So youve still got change for 3 1p sweets (do they even exist anymore?!).

Top 5 Thursday: Boohoo.Com

Wow these Top 5 Thursday come round awfully quick dont they?

This weeks selection comes courtesy of Boohoo.Com. I must admit that this in an online store that I very rarely purchase from and its also one that I hardly ever even look at to see if something catches my eye.

First up from my selection is

Mya Rose Print Trousers - £20.00

One thing about Boohoo is that theyre so cheap. 20 smackers for these trousers is pretty bargainous. I love how the colours for the flowers are quite unusual and these are pretty smart but on trend.

Helen Contrast Waistband Maxi Skirt - £10.00

I love this colour and there are also some other autumnal colours such as forest green and mustard. This is a great transitional piece and would look great with a think sweater or a vest top like in the above picture.

Hazel Embroidered Lace Open Back Skater Dress - £25.00

Has Topshop had something similar to this? I love lace, its so feminine and dainty and what with skater dresses being so flattering on any figure this is a winner in my book!

Amarah Mint Bow Platform Heels - £30.00

My first shoe offering for you today. These look blue but the title says theyre mint coloured so Im a bit confused. They may be high but the strap and the platform make them more comfortable and easy to walk in. You could survive on the dancefloor all night!

Talia Luggage Tag Shopper - £25.00

Im not normally one for shopper style bags but theres something about this one that has drawm me in. The 2 zips on the front add a stylish something and the colour is unusual but is something that goes with everything.

Boots Smooth Care Wax Strips

Hello, today I will be reviewing these Boots own Smooth Care Wax Strips for sensitive skin (which can be purchased here for £2.74, they were originally £5.49).

I recently bought these while I was on holiday in Cornwall, Ive never really tried waxing my legs so I thought id give it a go.

First impressions with this product were not really that great. Im not sure if it is just my leg hair but I used about 4 strips (out of a pack of 20!) on the bottom half of my right leg and I still didnt get all the hair. I dont have hair of ape like proportions so I expected the strips to do a better job than that.

Im not moaning about the pain because thats a given when you rip the hair out of the follicle. My main gripe with this product is the small amount of hair that is pulled out with each strip. Ive never had my legs professionally waxed but I assume that you get more hair out of 4 strips than you do with this. I wasnt expecting professional results but I was expecting better than I got.

Im not sure whether someone with fair hair or with less hair on their legs would get better results but if im honest I wouldnt really recommed these. Either go to a professional or if youre not botheres by waxing then just use a razor - more effective and certainly less painful!

My Favourite: Foundation

Hello girlies how are we all?

Today im introducing a new series of posts entitled 'My Favourties' and each post will cover a specific area of makeup and highlight my favourite product within that category.

Today im focusing on Foundation. Every makeup look is not complete without a flawless base and this is the main claim of the foundation I am about to talk about.

As you can tell from the photo above the Foundation I will be reviewing today is the 17 Photo Flawless foundation which is available to purchase for £6.49 from Boots.

Im currently on my third bottle of this product which is surprising seeing as I have a love hate relationship with foundation.

I use the shade Light Ivory (I think? Ivory something anyway) and this is a perfect match for the summer when I have a subtle tan. Its not too orange and its not too pale.

The main claim of this foundation is that it provides a flawless base which is perfect for photos and which lasts for a huge amount of time so that touch ups are not needed on nights out.

My thought on this foundation are all positive. I suffer with oily skin and this does not make it worse in any way at all. I also have dry patches and this doesnt make them more noticeable so I would say this foundation is suitable for any skin type. Its moisturising without making you look shiny.

The consistency of this product is very thick, when you hold your hand up it doesnt run down the back of it unlike some which I have previously used. However saying that, its not too thick that you would then need a lot of product to cover your face. As its quite thick the coverage of this is medium and could be full if you build it up.

I havent had any nasty breakouts from this so I dont think there are any nasties lurking about on the ingredients list.

I would definitely recommend this foundation to someone who is looking for a long wearing, medium to full coverage foundation that is true to shade and is affordable.
